We head to Arkansas when searching for quartz crystal, specifically Mount Ida and Jessieville. If we aren't camping we like to stay at the Royal Oak Inn.

There are several options when looking for a great digging experience. We have had success at Wegner, Twin Creek, Ron Coleman and Jim Coleman. Each have their own specific hours and approach to "dig your own" and will give you a great day of digging.

We always wear old clothes, things we might be able to discard if they are just too dirty or muddy. Rubber boots or hiking boots will protect your feet. Sunscreen and hydration are key to enjoying your time at the tailing pile.

Gardening hand tools; a hammer and chisel; a Fannie pack for small pieces and a 2 or 5 gallon bucket for large rpieces; a spray bottle of water for on the spot cleaning of your finds; and lunch/snacks plus plenty of water.

Shiny little windows into the ground. Some times you'll see the shine but sometimes you'll see what looks like a smooth dark window. Also, it's nice to go after a good rain, yes it's muddy but the rain cleans the crystals and they are a little bit easier to spot.

Arkansas is beautiful!! We can't say enough about how amazing this area is. This photo was taken on our way to Wegner's Mine.

...the digging site! Make sure you take a moment to look up from digging.

There are some amazing crystals in the surrounding mines. Make sure you visit Arkansas.
